Nicola Hughes' Funeral Gets Underway

PC Nicola Hughes, the 23-year-old Greater Manchester Police officer, who was killed attending an incident with her colleague PC Fiona Bone two weeks ago, has been receiving tributes from colleagues and the general public in Manchester.

The two officers were killed in a gun and grenade attack after being called to investigate a ‘routine incident’ in the Mottram area of Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Police Force flag has been flying at half-mast above Manchester Cathedral as the funeral cortege made its way down Deansgate in the City Centre. Police urged members of the public to show solidarity and join them standing on the route of the procession in quiet reflection and they turned out in droves.

Whilst entry to the cathedral is by invitation only for family, friends and colleagues of PC Hughes – the general public are able to watch the service on a screen in Cathedral Gardens.
