Umberto

All about Umberto...
Umberto is something of an accidental star... but is all the better for it.
He spent nine years working in nursing, both as a general nurse and as a psychiatric nurse. That was before his colleagues persuaded him to phone in to what was then Piccadilly Radio. They loved him and phoned him back to offer him a job.
That was in the 1970s and the rest, as they say, is history!
From Piccadilly Radio, where he spent many years, Umberto has gone on to do a variety of television shows, from Fashion Frankenstein (where he gave fashion advice) to Brookside, Loose Women and a Channel 4 film with Suggs from Madness.
Now he is working alongside long-time friend Dave Ward presenting Weekend Breakfast for Real Radio.
He has helped a number of high profile charities and is a patron of Hope Hospital in Salford and the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary. He is also on the steering group for the Diabetic Society.
Although Umberto is a huge star and adores radio and television, he tends to shy away from the glitz of the celebrity world.
He is just as happy at home watching telly or listening to the radio on a Saturday night.
